Problems Letting Go Of Cars – Part 3

Here’s the third part in my car life series. Most of my friends were getting into trucks and off roading. I decided I wanted something roomy, american, and durable. Found this nice truck in Richmond here for $500. 260,000km and the body was in great shape. Only needed to fix a water leak, it would drain all the coolant in about 45 min. 4wd, power windows, locks, cd player. Being the mechanic I am, I jumped on it. Read the rest of this entry »

2010 Ford F-150 SVT

ford-f-150-svt-raptorFord’s Special Vehicle Team has done it again with the brand new 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. It’s not the first time they’ve done trucks before, the last being the 2004 Lightning. But this time around the car is built for off road not on. The Raptor is based on the F-150 and includes a distinctive grill featuring Ford in bold letters carved into it,features a 7-inch wider body then a stock F-150 and comes in a Super Cab with a 5 1⁄2-foot bed, which gives the truck the perfect proportions while maintaining a shorter wheelbase that is vital for getting over rough terrain. Power is provided by the standard 5.4-litre V8 that makes 320 hp coupled to a new six-speed automatic transmission. Later this winter a 6.2L V8 will be offered that will up the power to an even 400 hp. Suspension is astounding for a production vehicle with 11.2 inches of front suspension travel and 12.1 in the rear, damped by big-piston Fox Racing Shock absorbers all rolling on 35-inch BFGoodrich tires with three-ply reinforced sidewalls. So what does this equal? A factory-built, off-road racing truck that is one of the most capable truck money can buy. Canadian pricing for the base Raptor (with the 5.4L V8) will be $48,299. The price for the optional 6.2L version has not been announced, but in the United States it is an additional US$3,000. Dealers are now taking orders for delivery in the late fall.

Junkyard Find: 1995 Ford Taurus SHO

1995 Ford Taurus SHO at junkyardI was at the local (well not really) wrecker last weekend, and I came across this beautiful machine while getting some Jeep and Ford parts. 95 Taurus SHO, 3.0L engine. As most SHO fans would know, the 3.0L engine was the original that came with the 5 speed transmission, and it was the 3.2L with the automatic.

I honestly can’t figure out why this car is sitting in the parts yard, the body wasn’t damaged, engine looked cared for, interior was good. There is hardly any SHO’s around anymore (unless you count the 2010 model which is a totally new beast.) Ford only sold 160,000 SHO’s over it’s 10 year lifespan.
